Thunder Mountain, Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, Alaska-Image 2929

One of my most favorite views of the Mendenhall Glacier is from Thunder Mountain.  The Mendenhall is about 13 miles long and from the visitor center one can see about 4 to 5 miles up the glacier before it makes a turn to the left and goes out of site. This view gives you the rest of the glacier and showcases the amazing mountains of the Coastal Range. The people in the image give a great sense of scale to this amazing perspective. This image ran across two pages in the July-August issue of Alaska Magazine and is featured on the cover of my 2016 Juneau Calendar and during the month of August. I would say that, for most of us in Juneau, the Mendenhall Glacier gives us something we cannot put into words. When I see the Mendenhall I cannot help but pause to think about what I am seeing, each and every time. Thanks for visiting. Camera: Nikon D800,  Lens: Nikkor 70-200 F/4, ISO 200, digital, polarized – Copyright Mark Kelley
